Mayor's Message - March 24, 2020e-mail Mayor RunfeldtAs of today, there are 5 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Lincoln Park. Although these are considered “new” cases, they were in fact suspected over the weekend and we have just received confirmation that they were positive.
Although, we are beginning to see an increase in cases, there are a few things to keep in mind. Primarily, as access to testing becomes more available, there will be an increase in positive cases. As the number of confirmed cases increase, it is likely that passing the virus to other members of the same household (which is the case with two of our cases) will likely cause the number to rise. It is also very important to know that all 5 of the positive cases in Lincoln Park are isolated, recovering at home and do not require hospital care at this time. None of the positive cases in Lincoln Park have been an elderly person. This shows that in our community we are doing our part to minimize the risk to those who are more susceptible to serious consequences. Unfortunately, it also shows that no one is immune from the disease and that our younger residents should be extra vigilant in following proper hygiene and social distancing practices.
We are helping to raise supplies for local hospitals. They are in need of Crocs (or similar footwear), socks, gloves, masks, face shields and hair ties. Although offices in Borough Hall are now closed to public access, these items can be dropped off in the vestibule at the main entrance from the parking lot. Donations to our food pantry can also be dropped off in this area. Please remember to observe proper distancing if there are several people there at the same time.
My administration remains in constant contact with our state and county partners, and we will release additional information as it is provided. The State of New Jersey has set up a comprehensive website covering many questions you may have regarding COVID-19, as well as a telephone hotline. For more information, please visit www.covid19.nj.gov or call 211. Our Borough website www.bolp.org also has a tremendous amount of information for you as well.
Please remember to consult your personal doctor if you exhibit any symptoms of illness. I will continue to provide accurate and up-to-date information as quickly as possible.
Mayor David Runfeldt
